Psychotherapy Service for adoptive, foster parents and adoptees

Now available

What’s on offer?

Short or long term psychotherapy is now available to adoptive and foster parents and adult adoptees.  See locations for where I see clients. I am able to offer a reduced rate of £50 per session for the first 3 months of therapy.

Why Psychotherapy helps?

Adoption and Fostering raises certain challenges not often experienced when children remain with their birth families.  For parents, at times it can feel like parenting with the volume turned up. It requires them to dig deep into themselves to understand their children’s behaviour and why they react and get triggered. For adoptees the feeling might be a level of heightened anxiety which they feel they cannot regulate or an inability to really talk about and explore their experience of adoption no matter how open their family has been.

Understanding ourselves can help us to develop closer relationships, whether we are parents or adoptees. Working on ourselves in therapy can also help us stay connected in our relationships during really challenging times.

‘Research in the field of child development has demonstrated that a child’s security of attachment to parents is strongly connected to the parents’ understanding of their own early life experiences.’
Daniel Siegel and Mary Hartzell, Parenting from the Inside Out

'Being able to feel safe with other people is probably the single most important aspect of mental health.'
